For a long time, hydrogen was considered the most abundant substance in the universe and its use for the benefit of humanity has always been a subject of interest for scientists and entrepreneurs from all over the world, however, it was believed that within our planet this substance does not accumulate or form in large quantities, but is it true?
Back in 1987, diggers in Bourakébougou, Mali, inadvertently discovered a source of hydrogen after a fire started near a drilled water well.
It wasn't until 2012 that Chapman Petroleum confirmed that the gas was 98% hydrogen, an extremely rare drilling discovery.
This discovery supports the hypothesis that there are large natural reserves of hydrogen on Earth, formed by the reaction of water and rocks deep within the Earth.
The potential of these natural hydrogen reserves could meet global demand for thousands of years according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and their model presented in October 2022. The map of relevant geologic features for the continental United States is to be published in 2024.
